Tom Ford started off his inspiration for the S/S 2015 Collection when he watched 'Mati Hari', a 1931 film about the exotic dancer and the accusations of her being a spy for the germans during World War I. His focus of course was the clothes Greta Garbo wore as Mati Hari in the film. She is dressed head to toe in beautifully detailed garments which were designed by one of the most iconic designers of the 30's, Adrian. Ford also took inspiration of course from images of the real Mati Hari and her outfits are just as amazing as the film!
The collection is also inspired by Tom Ford's old works from the 90's when he was the Creative Director of Gucci. The Gucci S/S 1996 Collection involved many black and white clothing and a splash of colour to the runway. The fabrics are sheer and metallic and there are also a few sheer and low cut garments in the collection. The hairstyles are dishevelled looking along with a blue smoky eye.
Films by Rainer Werner Fassbinder were also an inspiration to the clothing line. Fassbinder was a director and his films were made from 1969-1982 when he died of a drug overdose. His films were made to be provoking and disturbing with plenty of controversy.
Ford has always used women as part of his inspiration for his collections and for this season, the opening scene of the 1965 film 'The Tenth Victim' plays a part. In the scene Ursula Andress, the beautiful actress is wearing silver, metallic texturised underwear but the main inspiration is Andress' breasts as they are actually a weapon shooting pistols like guns.
Carlo Mollino, a designer and arcitect has been a long time inspiration and fascination to Tom Ford. Mollino's 'Polaroids' exhibition was a collection of polaroids consisting a combination of Surrealism, Futurism, Art Nouveau, ancient mythology and the female form.
Lisa Esner's style is also an inspiration of the S/S 2015 Collection. Lisa Eisner is a fashion editor at Vogue and Mademoiselle as well as frequent contributor to other magazine companys such as Vanity Fair and Harper's Bazaar. Her wardrobe consists of bright, lively colours, patterns and textures.
The collection has dresses that cover very little of the breast area which is inspired by contemporary fashion through young women such as Miley Cyrus and Rihanna who have the bodies to pull it off.
